QS-Barcode SDK
QS-Barcode SDK is a high-performance 32-bit/64-bit software with multi-threading support for barcode recognition from digital images or Adobe PDF-Documents. The images are produced using scanners, digital cameras or fax machines.
System requirements
Windows 7/8/10/11
Windows Server 2008/2012/2016/2019/2022
Images are generated from forms or documents by scanning, faxing or photography.
Supports Adobe PDF documents and generated documents from print, COLD, etc.).
- You can test the readability of barcodes in images with our freeware bcTester
- Check all functions of QS-Barcode SDK with a Free Evaluation Copy.
QS-Barcode SDK (Software Development Kit) was developed from algorithms in the QS-Beleg form recognition software, which has been used successfully for years. It recognizes the barcode symbologies Codabar, Code 2/5 interleaved, Code 2/5 Industry, Code 39, Code 39 extended, Code 32, Code 93, EAN 8, EAN 13, UPC a, UPC E, Code 11, Code 128 and EAN 128. We also support GS1 DataBar (POS) barcodes! New are various Post Codes like Royal Mail Barcode, Dutch Code KIX, Australian, Canadian CPC, Code One, Intelligent Mail Barcode IMB, PostBar, PostNet, Planet Code. The most common use of barcode recognition is quick and reliable identification and indexing of documents for data capture (OCR, ICR, etc.) and archiving.
Optionally you can receive two-dimensional barcode recognition: PDF417 barcode, Aztec Code, QR Code and Data Matrix (not only ECC200, but also ECC000-140). The complete character set and binary data can be encoded in two-dimensional barcodes, up to 3,000 characters.
The Data Matrix barcode was designed for small parts marking and is today used for small electrical parts, by the pharmaceutical industry for unit dose packaging, by the automotive industry and by NASA.
QS-Barcode SDK is permanently improved and will be extended with new features. Detailed information about the bug fixes and improvements you can find in the history.

QS-Barcode SDK software comes as a developer library (C-LIB, DLL and OCX) for Microsoft Windows. The DLLs and LIBs are available as a 32-bit and 64-bit version. The product is designed for developers who wish to integrate barcode recognition functionality into their own programs. Integrating functionality is easy and performed quickly. Following parameter setting (symbology, position of the barcodes), the image is transferred to the library and the recognition function is called up. The result structure provides the recognized results and additional information about the barcodes. Please find interface details in our download area. In addition to the library, QS-Barcode SDK also comes with test application and code examples on library integration.
Scanning
Scanning in this area is usually done with 200 or 300 dpi resolution. In order to get a correct barcode reading at such a low resolution, the barcodes must be printed clearly and they must not be positioned too closely .We recommend a maximum of 2 characters/cm at 200 dpi and a maximum of 3 characters/cm at 300 dpi. For example, an 8-digit barcode should have a width of 4 cm to be read properly at 200dpi.
The PDF417 requires a higher resolution. For error free recognition, the minimal module width must not be under 5 pixels.
In addition to scanner resolution and barcode width, reliable recognition also depends on other factors:
- barcode symbology
- scanner preferences
- height of barcode
- skew angle (particularly with sticky labels)
- quality of printer and paper
QS-Barcode SDK offers several parameters to make the recognition quality more reliable in terms of basic requirements. Before QS-Barcode is used in daily routine, it is highly recommended to perform a larger test using the suggested barcode under regular production conditions.
Please send your questions and test images to support@qualitysoft.de. We are always happy to help you!
Case studies
Barcodes and their recognition with QS-Barcode can be used in a variety of ways. Some examples of how our customers use QS-Barcode are listed below.
Quality control of self-generated barcodes
Outgoing written offers contain the customer and quotation number encoded in the barcode. In this way, orders that come back can be identified quickly and reliably.
Outgoing mail is scanned after printing and given to QS-Barcode to check and ensure readability.
Client: Quelle AG
Fine notices
At the Saxony-Anhalt police, fine notices that are not processed smoothly (returns, refusals, appeals, etc.) are promptly scanned and identified with a QS-Barcode.
In this way, deadlines that are relevant for further legal proceedings are recorded.
Client: Technical Police Office Magdeburg
Drawing Archive
Technical drawings in format up to DIN A0 are digitized by scanning and are to be archived electronically. For identification, a barcode label is generated and affixed to any free space in the drawing.
After scanning, QS-Barcode automatically ensures the assignment between the “image” of the drawing and the “document database”. Here, QS-Barcode saves cumbersome operating steps that would otherwise be necessary before or after scanning.
